Mit dem Ziel alternative und nachhaltige Formen der Stadtplanung zu entwerfen, fragt dieses Buch: Was sind die Hauptkriterien einer ökologischen Stadtplanung? Wie wären diese zu organisieren? Und welche Rolle spielen Design und Planung in diesem Prozess? Während den Themen Klimawandel, nachhaltige Architektur und grüne Technologien viel Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird, sind Ansätze zur ökologischen Stadtplanung bisher weit weniger verbreitet.
Der Publikation liegt die Überzeugung zugrunde, dass ein ökologischer Ansatz dringend nötig ist, um die heutige Situation zu verbessern und Ordnungsprinzipien für zukünftige Stadtgestaltung zu entwickeln. Dabei kann Design als Bindeglied dienen zwischen Ökologie und einer Stadtplanung, die nicht im Gegensatz zu ihrer Umwelt steht. Das Buch bringt Designer, Ökonomen, Ingenieure, Künstler, politische Entscheidungsträger, Umweltforscher und Fachleute aus dem Gesundheitswesen zusammen, um ein profunderes Verständnis für eine ökologische Stadtplanung zu entwickeln.
