Balthasar Burkhard
Balthasar Burkhard (1944-2010) was a Swiss photographer known for his large-format black-and-white photographs. In the 1960s, after an photographer apprenticeship, he started his career as a documentary photographer for the internationally renowned Swiss curator Harald Szeemann at Kunsthalle Bern. From 1976-1978 Burkhard was visiting Lecturer of Photography at the University of Illinios in Chicago, had his first solo exhibiton and worked on several film projects. In the early 1980s, Burkhard returned to Switzerland where he had further solo exhibitions and also worked as an architectural photographer.
