Cees Nooteboom

Cees Nooteboom (*1933) debuted in 1955 with the novel “Philip en de anderen” (Philip and the Others) and has since built up an imposing oeuvre of novels, poetry, short stories and travelogues. As one of the greatest and most innovative contemporary Dutch writers, he is the recipient of the prestigious P.C. Hooft Prize and the Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren for his extensive oeuvre. An internationally renowned, well-traveled individual, his work has been translated into over twenty languages and he has won numerous awards, including the American Pegasus Prize, the European Aristeion Prize and the Formentor Literature Prize 2020. Nooteboom has received honorary doctorates from various universities, including the Freie Universität Berlin and University College London.
